Xavier Lucien appears in Hunter: The Reckoning - Redeemer, a hunter. However, in reality he's a Tainted servant of the Wyrm; a Fomor. Possessed by a corrupted spirit of war, greed and moral corruption; a minion of the main overarching antagonist of Werewolf: The Apocalypse. He severs as the main antagonist throughout the Third entry.
Xavier Lucien is the owner of the multi-conglomerate called Genefex, a shipping and reciving company that operated exclusively within Ashcroft, distributing products from other companies such as: Avalon Incorporated, Tellus, Magadon, Incorporated, and King Breweries and Distillers.
Biography[]
At some point in his life, Xavier Lucien heard the voice of something speaking to him. Whether this was initially the Messengers or the Wyrm is left vague. But upon hearing this voice, it was then that he used the resources of his company, Genefex, to capture and research supernatural creatures. In the hopes of developing better means for him and his fellow hunters in combating the monsters of their hunts.
At some point however, Xavier eventually fell to the corrupting influence of the Wyrm in a desprate attempt to eradicate the werewolves on the outskirts of Ashcroft. Now he seeks to use his corporation's resources to spread the Wyrm's influence across the entire city, as well as the other surrounding areas, with a mutagen that turns them into hulking cyclopian Fomori referred to as 'Foot-Soldiers'. He does this hoping that these Foot-Soldiers will eliminate the werewolves for him along with his security forces.
By the end of the game while Xavier Lucien is defeated, he is killed by Father Esteban Cortez for good, just before the explosives blow up Genefex Corporation in 2012.
Dialogue + Quotes[]
- “Our toy, electronic, and cosmetic divisions are reporting record sales, and this is our last chance to get product on the shelves before Christmas. Those stupid animals have prevented our last 3 shipments and if this one fails Captain… It’s your fault. If the ground opens up and swallows the trucks, it is still your fault.”
- “Get a defensive perimeter set up around the shipment.”
- “Hold your positions!
- “More will be coming.”
- “Almost a year. After using the resources of Genefex to thin out the Rot and Vampire population I turned my attention to the Shapeshifters. But they hide deep in the forests that surrounded the city… and they are far more powerful than I anticipated. Most of Ashcroft earns its living from Genefex somehow… and these animals are killing innocent workers. I can’t stop them alone.
- “They must be getting desperate to come out in the open like this. We need to put those monsters down like rabid dogs. I don’t like to think about what might have happened if you hadn’t been here. If you need anything at all you let me know. It’s good… to finally have people here who understand. Maybe we can finally clean up Ashcroft for good.”
- “Call the warehouse and have them ready all remaining product for immediate transport. Then send every available man into that forest with orders to kill anything that moves. Burn it down if you have to, but I want those animals exterminated.”
- “I thought… . I thought they wanted to help. I thought they understood what I was trying to do.
- “Do it.”
- “Who the hell do you people think you are? Are you really so arrogant to think you can just waltz into my city after 5 years and undo everything I’ve worked for over some filthy animals!? We could have finally freed Ashcorft from the creatures that hold It hostage. I thought you understood. You could have been part of something great. But I can see now that you’ve been tainted by those monsters… yes… You’re traitors to the hunt and you’ve squandered your gifts to preserve creatures you’re sworn to destroy. But we’ve come too far… made too many sacrifices to allow you to live. You’re not dealing with a pathetic old Vampire this time Hunters… we have become more than human… more than a hunter… even more powerful than the messengers themselves.”
- (his last words) - “Don’t you see? It was the only way to get the damned monsters out of Ashcroft!
Speculation[]
Xavier Lucien's existence as an Imbued Hunter turned Fomor contradicts HTR and WTA lore, as on page 144 of Book of the Wyrm 20th Anniversary Edition, a side bar explicitly states that Imbued Hunters cannot be possessed. It's one of the many gifts granted to them by the Messengers. Not only that, but Xavier has specific knowledge regarding the Imbued and the supernatural, meaning that he could've been in contact with the Messengers at some point in his life. The only two possible explanations for the contradiction is that Lucien might actually be a bystander, a failed Imbued Hunter who didn't retaliate against the supernatural but was cursed with knowledge of their existence; or he was never contacted by The Messengers and instead only heard the voice of a Bane in service to the Wyrm.
Trivia[]
- Xavier Lucien is voiced by Ron Perlman, who's well-known in movies like Hellboy, Blade 2, Alien: Resurrection, Pacific Rim, and most famously as Clay Morrow in Sons Of Anarchy TV series.
- During his fight as the final boss, Xavier transforms into a Demonic Wyrmish Dragon. This likely means he's become a Fomarch, a powerful fomor that is above a typical human possesed by a Bane.
- Despite being a Wyrm Tainted pawn, Lucien still displayed the ability to use certain Imbued Hunter Edges such as "Cleave" and "Word of power" (orange color).
