Sobered Up Yet?[]

Crap, it's a new year! The last one went by so quickly we weren't quite finished with it! Fortunately, White Wolf is prepared for 1997 (beyond having numerous hangover remedies), and this installment of Night Edition kicks it off in style. Not only does this issue update you on new releases and events in January and February, it offers a glimpse of what's to come for the whole year. Before you read any further, are you sure you want to know what's coming out all the way in November and December 1997? Can you stand the wait? Well... you'll have to! Swallow that with your January 1st pot of recovery coffee!

Shapeshifters of a Different Stripe[]

If you think the Garou are the only Skinchangers to rule the wild places, think again.

In February, the World of Darkness will be invaded by Bastet. The Nine Tribes of werecats are now fully detailed and updated, and ready to leap claws-first into chronicles across the world. But don't think we're stopping there. in March, the werecoyotes follow on the cats' heels with the release of Nuwisha.

The Changing Breed books take the shapeshifters presented in The Werewolf Players Guide, and flesh them out as fully as the Garou. Bastet will be a huge book, about what you'd expect when dealing with nine tribes. Later books will complement the Garou Tribebooks, detailing the history, society, special tricks and unique viewpoints of each of the shapeshifting races. And with each book comes a new way looking at the World of Darkness: from the Bastet's secrecy to the Nuwisha's killer sense of humor, from the Gurahl's wisdom to the Rokea's savagery, you'll find something different in every Changing Breed book.

Be careful - here's where the wild things are.

Game Stuff[]

Warm Up to These January Game Books[]

City of Black Miracles[]

Montreal by Night is an unprecedented new release for Vampire: The Masquerade. This isn't just another "by Night" book, but a combination of the worst corruption and vileness that word "vampire" encompasses: The book is dedicated to the Sabbat, and is the latest from Black Dog Game Factory! We just couldn't do justice to these enemies of the Camarilla any other way. If you think you've seen it all, that there is nothing new under the moon, head north and learn otherwise - the hard way. Just don't let 'em know who your real allies are, and don't eat the red snow.

For adults only.

Stock #2216; ISBN 1-56504-224-7; 128 pages; $15.00 U.S.

These classics have been out of print for years, and now can't be found anywhere else. Here's your chance to strike back at the Wyrm.

Home is Where the Quintessence Is[]

Mages work their magic in the darnedest places, and Mage Chronicles Volume 1 proves it! Some mages live unassumingly among the masses, but retreat to amazing secret laboratories in the basements. This book is the ultimate reference on the subject. Mage Chronicles Volume I follows in the tradition of the Chronicle book for Vampire and Werewolf. Your Ticket, Please[]

"Here are haunted rooms, elevators and mazes, and towns where strange insect life holds sway or office buildings seem reluctant to let people go home. Here, too, are off-beat worlds which exist beneath the risers of a staircase or deep in the bowels of the earth, and alien landscapes where one might invoke the power of the angels, discover long-last magicians or simply commune with deceased relatives... locations rich and strange and bizarre, and all yours for the taking."

1997: Year of the Ally[]

Don't go into the night alone in 1997. There are mortals in the World of Darkness who know who - and what - you are. Don't worry, though - they're dangerous, but they're on your side. They're your friends, companions, sidekicks - your allies.

The Year of the Ally is a series of Storyteller books that details the mortals who stand by the sides of vampires, Garou, mages, wraiths and changelings. There's one book in each Storyteller game line, and one for The Masquerade - seven in all.

Allies may be mortal, but they aren't mundane... and that 12-gauge helps.

Look for these Year of the Ally titles in '97:

Black Dog[]

When it appeared in 1991, Vampire: The Masquerade cast aside conventional gaming and took the roleplaying world by surprise. No longer were statistics and treasure important; storytelling was essential.

Now gaming is turned on its ear again. We know you're mature, and we know that you take your games beyond the limits of what their rules and supplements provide. There's a line of books specifically for you.

The Black Dog Game Factory imprint artistically pursues these and issues that gaming has never been allowed to address. These books bare the unexplored, and detail the World of Darkness to a depth and horror that no previous books have been able to.

We know your gaming has evolved beyond our designs, and now we pay tribute to your gaming.

Look for these Black Dog books in 1997:

How the West Was Won![]

Wild Ages and Dark West?[]

In 1996 we released the first in a series of Storyteller games set outside the modern World of Darkness. Vampire: The Dark Ages got the ball rolling, and is already supported by a handful of supplements, like Book of Storyteller Secrets.

In 1997 we lost it. Not only are we releasing Werewolf: The Wild West, but both games will be supported by a number of books. Justin Achilli, our new D.A./W.W. developer is already at work on a bunch of rockin' releases for both games. Look out for Clanbook: Cappadocian and Vampire: The Dark Ages Companion in the coming months.
