Vitae is the primal essence and energies of blood. It is the source of a vampire's power and also the cause of his/her cravings. It is what sustains the undead body of the vampire and the reason they must drink the blood of the living.
It is theorized that Vitae is actually fused with Quintessence, which explains its supernatural properties.
