Presiding over a vast tower filled with endless stacks of books, the True Fae Vellum drinks in as much information as he can find.

Within his ghost-haunted library, Vellum clambers like a monkey, seeking out with his long arms the books with which he is so obsessed. The creature is bent on collecting information on the mortal side of the Hedge, absorbing it completely, believing that in doing so, he can come to some understanding of the human condition.

If tested, however, the Other's ignorance is revealed: like all of his kind, he is unable to understand human motivations. Indeed, should he ever do so, he would inevitably become another Banished Faerie.

The True Fae tends to be cold to his changelings, though he is not exactly cruel.

Vellum's ChangelingsEdit

In keeping with his tendency to hoard books, Vellum's servants act as either librarians or thieves. The former maintain the collection, acting as custodians for books that, on occasion, will come to life as hobgoblins. The latter add to the library, stealing potentially interesting sources of knowledge for the Faerie. 

Wizened and Darklings (particularly Oracles and Antiquarians, respectively) tend to be born of Vellum's service, given that he himself is an odd mix of both. However, the dark maze of shelves might make a nice home to a Skitterskulk. Vellum’s enjoyment of odd contrivances and little machines might cause a Manikin to develop. 


Vellum is a short thing with arms twice as long as his legs and a fat gray belly pushing out past his cobweb robe. He stares out with black eyes magnified by a pair of bent-rim golden glasses. Vellum often has a number of books hanging at his side, bound by a ragged leather strap. Though physically awkward, he has thorn-like claws and tiny, sharpened teeth.
