Vatican City is a small city-state and enclave within the city Rome, in Italy. It serves as the base of the Catholic Church.

The Vatican has served as a holdout of the centuries-gone Inquisition since that movement faded away (or was merely put on hold, as many in the Vatican would tell you). While the Society of Leopold did its best to continue its work abroad, elements of the Entity hidden within the remnants of the organized Inquisition (nowadays called the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith) struggled to keep the rest of the Holy See aware of its old enemy even as the Masquerade clouded the memories of the past.
With the rise of the Second Inquisition, the Vatican as a political entity has become one of the founding Five Torches of the Coalition. The Entity has been re-united with the Society of Leopold (now recanonized by the Church as the Society of St. Leopold), and the joint force of the Entity Special Operations Group gives the Holy See's secret service more ability than ever to advance Catholicism's interests around the world.
As far as they’re concerned the Vatican is the heart of the Second Inquisition and the driving force behind many of the Coalition’s most successful operations. While the Vatican’s forces may not always have the most modern or sound grasp on battlefield tactics, their knowledge of the vampire threat is far beyond any other member of the conspiracy. Supposedly, the coordinating group behind the Vatican’s vampire hunting efforts has an archive containing research and detailed descriptions dating back to the first Inquisition, detailing the powers and motivations of vampire overlords that may still be walking the Earth. Not to mention a storehouse of mystical artifacts that they loan out to successful hunters as trophies and badges of honor.
Vatican City itself has been rendered into a 'hedgehog' - a fiercely-defended bastion of hunter dominance in the midst of the still blankbody-riddled city of Rome.
