The Uchumallki are one of the four Suyu of the Teomallki, the South American immortals most commonly considered a kind of mummy.

Overview

Legend says that when a great beast emerged from the rainforest, the mallki sought its lair and came face-to-face with jaguar-people of the jungle. These people helped the mallki destroy the monster in exchange for the Spell of Going Westward, which they used to raise nigh-invulnerable protectors that even the shapeshifters found hard to challenge. They did not, however, respond to their cousins' cries for help when the Spanish invaded their lands; secure in the depths of the jungle, the Uchumallki were able to continue living as they always for centuries longer than the other suyu.

In modern nights, however, the Uchumallki have been forced to seek out help as their mortal charges and the very forest they call home are now under threat. Several Uchumallki illi went out into the world, and were shocked to discover the existence of the Teomallki. The Intimallki refused any aid to the Uchumallki, still bitter that the Smoke Dancers had ignored their own call for help centuries earlier. Some Chaskmallki ventured into the forest to join the fight, but their tendency towards suicidal self-sacrifice did not necessarily help. The Pachamallki, however, shared the new Spell of Going Westward with the Uchumallki, allowing them to recruit their own help.

Initially the Smoke Dancers sought out physically powerful hosts who could directly combat their enemies. However, as they learned more about the world outside their forest, they have shifted to seeking out mortals with the money and influence to end destructive development in the Amazon through policy rather than force of arms.

Purpose and Liability

The original Uchumallki were created by smoke-drying a corpse over open flame; consequently, modern Uchumallki are particularly resillient against heat and fire. However, they pay for this with a particular vulnerability to cold. Uchumallki subjected to temperatures below freezing suffer a level of aggravated damage per hour of exposure.
