White Wolf Wiki

Tulu, the Kookaburra, is a totem of Cunning.

Overview[]

A staunch foe of the Wyrm, Tulu is always in good humor, laughing in the face of death. Tulu is an intelligent warrior and swoops down upon his prey, breaking their backs with a flick of his powerful beak. His manic laughter echoes across the Dreamtime. Tulu is sometimes called the Father of the Bunyip, for it was he who spilt the Ngalyod the Rainbow Serpent's blood, from which the Bunyip were formed.

Traits & Ban[]

  • Background Cost: 7

Traits[]

Children of Tulu have an irrepressible sense of humor and never suffer from Harano. Tulu teaches his Children Subterfuge 3 and the Gift: Laughter.

  • Laughter (Level Three) - Children of Tulu can cause others to realize the humor of any situation - in fact, the uproarious hilarity of any situation.
    • System: Spends one Gnosis point and rolls Charisma + Expression (difficulty of the target's Willpower). If successful, the target is struck by how funny the situation is and breaks into peals of laughter. Any attack made by the target against the Tulu Child suffers a penalty of three to the Dice Pool (just looking at the Child is enough to cause the target to erupt into painfully spasmodic belly laughs). (Character does not have to be Rank Three to receive this Gift; any Child of Tulu, regardless of Rank, can use it).

Ban[]

Children of Tulu must kill any snake they see, symbolic of their battle against the Wyrm. The exception to this rule is any servant of the Rainbow Serpent.

Dead Magic II[]

A trickster to rival Dingo, Kookaburra is the wild bird of the Outback. You might think he is footloose and fancy-free because of his laugh. but ultimately, he laughs only in a cynical fashion. He laughs when he sees a predator about to choose a meal. Kookaburra represents the intuitive knowledge of danger that everyone has but sometimes chooses not to act upon. It is said that Kookaburra once warned Goanna about an attack from Eaglehawk. Because Goanna got away and Kookaburra laughed at Eaglehawk's missed swoop, Eaglehawk asked Rainbow Serpent to give Kookaburra something to really laugh about. Serpent declined, but the fact that great Eaglehawk felt it necessary to seek revenge against poor little Kookaburra was hilarious enough to the bird that Eaglehawk's curse became fact. Now Kookaburra can't resist laughing when faced with certain doom.

Ban: You are unable to keep yourself from laughing whenever you're in serious danger.
