Tilts are temporary states in the Chronicles of Darkness which affect a character who is in combat, unlike Conditions, which do not generally involve combat. They can come in two forms: Personal Tilts and Environmental Tilts. The former apply only to one character and can be overcome in some way. The latter, affecting all who are within range of the Tilt, can only be mitigated, lasting for an entire scene.[1]
Examples[]
Personal Tilts[]
- Arm Wrack: Your arm burns with pain and then goes numb. It could be dislocated, sprained or broken, but whatever's wrong with it, you can't move your limb.[1][2]
- Beaten Down: [3]
- Bleeding: [4]
- Blinded: The character's eyes are damaged or removed.[5][6]
- Burning: [4]
- Deafened: [5]
- Drugged: [7]
- Immobilized: [8]
- Insane: [9]
- Insensate: [9]
- Knocked Down: Something knocks the character to the floor, either toppling her with a powerful blow to the chest or taking one of her legs out from under her.[9][10]
- Leg Wrack: Your leg feels like it's going to snap clean off whenever you move; when you stop moving you feel a burning numbness that encourages you to avoid moving.[11][12]
- Pierced Armor: [4]
- Pinned: [4]
- Poisoned: You've got poison or sickness inside you. It's tearing you apart from the inside; burning like acid in your gut and making your head swim.[13][14]
- Sick: [13]
- Stunned: Your character is dazed and unable to think straight. Maybe her vision blurs. If she's stunned as a result of a blow to the head, she's probably got a concussion.[15][16]
Environmental Tilts[]
- Blizzard: [5]
- Earthquake: Everything shudders and shakes, and rents tear the ground wide open.[17][18]
- Extreme Cold (sometimes Personal): [17]
- Extreme Heat (sometimes Personal): [17]
- Flooded: [17]
- Heavy Rain: [19]
- Heavy Winds: Howling winds buffet at the characters, whipping street furniture into the air, tearing the roofs from buildings. Powerful winds can toss cars around like toys. Anyone out in the winds feels like they're taking a beating just for walking down the street.[19][20]
- Ice: [8]
- Inferno: [21]
- Iteru’s Black Blood: Filthy ichor covers the ground, killing crops and befouling the earth. It reeks, and stains whatever it touches with its greasy, nauseating corruption.[22]
- Riot: Tension thickens the air into a greasy cloud. Everything hangs in a delicate balance, as everyone wonders what happens next. Then someone throws a bottle.[23][24]
- Swarm: [25]
- Urban Collapse: The ground, walls, and ceilings around the scene are unstable, and fall apart with little motivation.[26][27]
