Overview[]
From the Back Cover:
The Bell of Ibyn Never Tolled.
And so the covenant fell. The wonderous Bell warned the wizards of all dangers, or so the magi of Calebais thought. But fifty long years ago, some malignant force destroyed their beautiful fortress, and its opulent halls have remained untouched ever since. Until now. Into your hands has fallen a document that hints at how to pierce the protective Veil of Riddles and you have an opportunity denied to all wizards before you: to explore the covenant of Calebais, to solve its mysteries, and to loot its treasures. But how did Calebais fall, and does the danger lurk there still?
For the adventurous, there wait bestial creatures, deadly traps, and fascinating prizes.
For the thoughtful, there wait riddles, mysteries, and tales yet untold.
For the slow of mind or body, there waits failure, injury, or death.
The story includes:
- Everything has been updated to 2nd edition Ars Magica.
- A new chapter featuring a medieval convent. This intricately connects the "dungeon" to the "real world."
- Mormool's challenging and intricate Veil of Riddles. More than a clichéd plot device, this riddle makes sense in terms of the story.
- Rules for intriguing ghosts which give them new vitality, interest, and possibility.
- Rules for running elementals, adapted from 1st edition Ars Magica.
- Profusely detailed with realistic and innovative encounters and "finds." Creatures to talk to, to fight with, and to flee from.
- At last, a "dungeon" that makes sense, whose inhabitants have reasons for being where they are and for doing what they do.
- From the original edition many additions have been made, and the "missing" sixth chapter has been returned.
"Well done and well conceived, contained one of the few playable riddles I have come across in gaming." - White Wolf, Stewart Wieck
"A first class fantasy adventure... imaginative, challenging, mysterious fun...The Broken Covenant [of Calebais] pleased me immensely, my recommendation is unreserved." - Dragon, Ken Rolston
