Extra-Solar Math[]

I have to check my math again, but the last time I calculated out my nova going to Alpha Centauri, the number of successes that I actually needed as opposed to the number listed in the Aberrant Players Guide on pg 36 was wrong. I mean inside the Solar System, all of those numbers were correct. It was once you had to calculate for light speed that things seemed to get a little... hairy. I will redo the calculations to ensure everything is on the up and up. Stay tuned... Omeri 22:49, May 17, 2011 (UTC)

Extra-Solar Math Remix[]

I think I got it all... if math gives you a headache, take your Mox now

Given
Speed of light = 299,792,458 m s¯1 [1]
1 Light Year = 9.46053 x 1012 km; 5,880,000,000,000 miles; or 63,240 AU [2]
The identical tables for Teleport and Warp [3]

Prove or Disprove[]

Spatial Distance Table has the correct number of successes needed to get to Alpha Centauri.

Math[]

Assuming the distance to Alpha Centauri is correct (that is 4.3 light years)...
4.3 * 9.46053 x 1012 = 4.0448079 * 1013km

The formula for Warp and Teleport can be reduced to
2 * 10x-1 km, with X being the number of sucesses one needs to perform the teleport or Warp.

With that being said since everything is in the same measurements (very important in math ask the Mars Mission). Aberrant: Aberrant Players Guide, p. 36 says we need 14 successes. That means we would travel
2 * 1014-1 which reduces to 2 * 1013

You do not have to be great at math to see that 2 is less than 4. It is short one success.

In Conclusion[]

You need 15 successes to get to Alpha Centauri.
