Having volunteered at my local library for years, I have to say I find this concept utterly absurd. God forbid that libraries use the Dewey Decimal or Library of Congress system to organize the books so patrons can find what they're looking for! As for keeping libraries quiet! Outside the obvious exception of the children's section, libraries are supposed to be a haven for those who want to read. I have found that the current fashion of filling libraries with shouting arguements and loud cell-phone conversations banishes reading, thought, and imagination in favor of banal petty arguments and pointless shouting. For anyone who seeks a reference book which they must then read in the library, a library too loud to read in is a locked box with reference books nobody can ever read again.
