Syria is a country on the eastern Mediterranean coast. Historically, the region labeled "Syria" or "Greater Syria" included not only the modern-day Syrian Arab Republic, but also parts of Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, and Palestine. Greater Syria may or may not be synonymous with the Assyrian Empire.
For the real-world country of Syria, see Syria. For the region, see Syria (region).
