Stability is the tenuous state of balance a Deviant possesses between humanity and inhumanity. As a Deviant falls further from humanity, he suffers Instability which leads to further mutation and eventually becomes fatal.

Instability[]

Stability functions similarly to Health, but the player marks Instabilities on the track instead of wounds. When a Deviant fails to support a Loyalty Touchstone or pursue a Conviction Touchstone, or when something shakes her sense of self, she suffers an Instability.

Instability is measured in three degrees, minor, moderate, and major. Minor Instabilities are easy to heal, but can exacerbate Scars and trigger Involuntary Variations more frequently. Moderate Instabilities are more noticeable to the Deviant, and are cause for significant concern. Major Instabilities are impossible to ignore, and usually lead to new Scars as the Deviant mutates further.

Healing Instability[]

Instability doesn't heal with time. The Remade must reaffirm their Loyalty or Conviction by taking direct action.

A Deviant may downgrade a major Instability and turn it into a new, permanent Scar. This Scar can later become entangled with a new Variation.
