The Southland Slasher is an unnamed serial killer who swept the Los Angeles area in late 2004, known for his particularly vicious, animalistic killings.
Early life[]
The Slasher's wife and children were senselessly killed during a break-in, when the small-time criminals were simply looking to rob their house or steal their car. Presumably, they all got away with it, as he later claims "not one of them paid."
At some point later, he got Embraced, and decided to use his new abilities to seek revenge on the criminals who killed his family.
Abilities[]
The Slasher is a powerful vampire and a very dangerous and vicious opponent. Even though he doesn't know anything about any vampiric laws or elements from their society, he managed to learn about Disciplines, mastering his clan's signature power, Protean, to an exceptional extent, being able to completely changing himself into a powerful monster. The Slasher also makes great use of his strength to throw objects as big and heavy as cars to his opponents.
Killing Spree[]
“ | Murder? Yes... the killer is dead. He moves soon and travels to the heart of the ángeles... and to the home of the stars... and then returns fulfilled... and empty once again. | ” |
-- Rosa
The first two killings were in Glendale and Long Beach, with police describing the victims as "torn apart." The third victim, Reno, in late October of 2004, was found strung up on a lamp post on the Santa Monica Pier, prompting its closing while police investigated.
The Slasher lured his final two victims, Sean Milton and "Muddy" Durbin, to meet in an abandoned Warehouse in Downtown LA, under the promises of giving them a "job" to perform, requiring two men. While he succeeded in killing Milton, beheading him and impaling his torso on some exposed rebar, Durbin escaped.
He found Durbin, his final victim, hiding at the Luckee Star Motel in Hollywood, and just barely managed to kill him before being caught off-guard by the prince's agent, sparing Durbin the excessive violence of his partners, and causing the Slasher to flee and return to his base of operations, the Brothers Salvage in Santa Monica.

Background Information[]
- Although identified as a Gangrel, the Slasher possesses both Protean and Obfuscate (the homeless man in the Abandoned Warehouse says he stepped out of the shadows), suggesting he may be a City Gangrel rather than part of the main clan.
- Jack the Ripper is probably the most well-known serial killer, and also killed four victims before being distracted while killing his fifth. In Jack's case, his fifth victim survived.
- During the Santa Monica section of VTM: Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines , the Slasher can often be found hanging out at the Surfside Diner, although he rebuffs any attempts at conversation. If you are using the Plus version of the Unofficial Patch, you'll be able to hear him on the phone, leaving the voice mail you'll later hear on Milton's answering machine to lure him and Durbin to the abandoned warehouse.
- His canonical fate is unknown, but the player may either choose to fight and kill him, or convince him to give up his crusade. If convinced to stand down in the Plus version of the Unofficial Patch, he can be found keeping guard for the Anarchs in front of the Chateau Marmont.
- If the Fledgling accepts Velvet Velour's quest and manages to deal with vampire hunter Chastity without drawing anyone's attention, police will suspect the Slasher in the stripper's murder.
- Other Kindred in LA suggest that the Slasher is a Caitiff; in this case, it's using the political meaning, of a Kindred who does not know their lineage or anything about Kindred society, rather than the meaning of a clanless vampire, whose blood contains no clan identifiers.[1] The Slasher, himself, rebuffs any notion of kinship, should a Gangrel Fledgeling mention their similar vampiric lineage.
- If not for the Fledgling's intervention, the Slasher might have ended as a "cannon fodder" for the Sabbat[1].
