Shejana is a Ravnos who currently makes her home in Chicago.
Biography[]
“ | I have seen so many things that you wouldn’t believe, things I shouldn’t have survived. How can you deny me my little pleasures? | ” |
Born amidst the European gypsies in the advent of Hitler's rise to power, Shejana and her family were finally taken and brought to the KZ Buchenwald. Because the commander found a liking in her, she was spared while her entire family was killed and her people slaughtered. Although she despised herself for it, she feared death and did anything he asked from her. When a Ravnos who lived within the camp and fed on the inhabitants offered her vengeance, she took the offer and was Embraced.
After the Allies had liberated the camp, Shejana headed westward, uncomfortable with staying in the Old World. She traveled across the USA, never staying long in one place, distracting others and herself with illusions to erase her inner torments. With the death of Lodin of Chicago, Shejana has settled in the city, hoping to finally find a home.
In Chicago, Shejana took to the local art scene, and even more so to drugs. For weeks and sometimes even months at a time, she would be absent from court on long benders fueled by drug-infused blood. This habit may well have saved her from being beckoned to the Ravnos Antediluvian during the Week of Nightmares, as it was not until she emerged from one of her narcoses that Shejana noticed that her clanmates had disappeared without a trace, leaving her to be considered Caitiff. Feeling alone and out of sorts, Shejana finds herself at a crossroads about whether to withdraw back into the depths of her mind, or to reach out and seek opportunity and camaraderie from others like her.
Shejana is a curiosity to Kindred both young and old, due to the dilapidation of her clan. She is focused on using this situation to gain knowledge of what may have become of the others and, once again, to survive it as she always has. Shejana is a target of at least two of the cults in Chicago’s modern nights, with both the Bahari and the Cult of Shalim very interested in adding her to their collection of Kindred members. Ever the dreamer, Shejana has a special place in her unbeating heart for those who can provide her with new experiences and exciting things to see, do, or feed from. Not only does she have an immense appetite (some would say, addiction) for drug addled mortals. She also enjoys fantastical, impressionistic imagery that she can weave into her personal illusions.
Shejana is not of the Camarilla but tolerated at court and is certainly not an Anarch. Young Kindred often guess at which of their clans she belongs to, while the older Kindred seems to treat her with a certain, distant suspicion. There are those among the court who whisper that the only reason Shejana has survived is that she betrayed the others of her clan, possibly at the hands of the Second Inquisition. For this reason, she remains under the Sheriff’s surveillance. Many rumors fly around nightclubs of Shejana. Young mortals talk of a beautiful young woman who wears a cilice around each of her thighs, inflicting constant pain upon her, even as she dances and gyrates among the throng of writhing, dancing bodies. Some think this is cool as hell, others are fearful of what such a woman may be like in a more private setting.
Appearance[]
Shejana, at her best, is strikingly beautiful with alabaster skin and high cheekbones framed within straight, short, bobbed black hair that speaks of 1920s, art déco decadence. At other times, she appears unkempt, her makeup smeared and sloppily renewed, if at all. She likes to adorn herself with piercings upon waking each night. She speaks in a heavily German/Eastern European accented English, which many patrons of Chicago’s clubs find intoxicating. Her voice is relatively deep and husky. Shejana’s wardrobe is almost entirely garish, brightly colored and sequined. She jangles and shimmers as she spins on the dance floor or strides under neon lights. Her jewelry is cheap but ostentatious. She regularly updated with even more disposable accessories when others are lost from her month-long debauches. When out and about in town, Shejana often simply refers to herself as “She” and, under that guise, she is a local legend. However, she does maintain an alternate identity as Marla Kruger, a foreign exchange student and socialite, with a knack for spending other people’s money.
