Septumus Dio is a Shadow Lord.
Overview[]
As a centurion serving under Emperor Trajan, Septumus Dio learned the arts of war and the way of conquest. His army moved into the the northern territories of the Geto-Dacian Empire in A.D. 122 and subjugated the remnants of the Illyrian tribes in northern Macedonia. After these lands were conquered, he stayed behind with the local praetor to establish a Roman settlement.
The local proconsul was sent to this far territory because of his open criticism of Emperor Trajan. While Septumus was a loyal soldier of the empire, he nonetheless admired his praetor's rebellious streak. Yet at the same time, as he continued to spend time with the local people of the tribe, he gained an admiration for their ways. Soon, he had begun a furtive affair with a young woman belonging to one of the local tribes. He was unaware that she was Kinfolk, yet she was not as innocent. A Kin-Fetch spirit had brought him to her, and she knew of his heritage as a Lord, even if he didn't.
Septumus grew increasingly disaffected with the proconsul's treatment of the local tribesmen. On the dawn before a raid was to take place against a religious ceremony in the hills outside of town, he underwent his first Change. Taken with the fury of battle, he stormed into the tent where his proconsul was drawing battle plans and savagely killed him. He never suspected that the caern they had raided was a Shadow Lord temple, and the troops he led never realized the true circumstance behind his taking power.
Yet Septumus' ascendance was successful, and he ruled over a Roman settlement caught between the demands of the Empire to the south and the needs of the Shadow Lord Kinfolk he watched over. His son then became proconsul after him, and as the son of a Garou and a Kinfolk, bred true with his father's gift. The Sept of Balance in Albania today is the result.
