- al-Qaeda terrorists fly two planes into the World Trade Center in New York City.
  - The Evanescence takes place, washing the Dreaming in Nightmare Glamour and opening trods that allow Thallain, Dark-Kin and other vile creatures.^[1]
  - During the morning's radio broadcast of The Howard Stern Show, Stern famously gives a raw, editorialized reaction to the morning's events as they happened live. Years later, Julia Sowinski, questioning Carter Vanderweyden about the death of Douglas Callihan, asks him about it to try to throw him off. He serves back with an articulated response.

2003
- Surrounded by crowds of horrified sightseers and papal novitiates, Cardinal Giancarlo Salvatore this morning immolated himself in the center of St. Peter’s Square after an impassioned speech proclaiming that the end of the world was at hand. Declaring that "the gates of Hell are breaking" and that "the Holy Church has fallen into the clutches of demons," Salvatore handed a document to a British tourist that he claimed would reveal "the truth that [his] fellow Cardinals have been keeping from the world." The Holy See has made no public comment regarding the Cardinal’s death, though the gates of the city have been closed to sightseers until further notice. The whereabouts of the British tourist who supposedly received Cardinal Salvatore’s testament are unknown.^[2]

- Michael M'btede, Utopian Director of African Operations, sends a memo to all Utopia-Africa staff. Due to persistant harassment and the disappearance of two DeVries elites (Wardog and Zip), Marrakesh and Casablanca are declared avoid zones for all nova personnel.^[4]
