Schnorrflers are a type of animate chimera populating the woods near Dudleytown, Connecticut.
Overview[]
Schnorrflers are chimera originally created from the imaginations of the early Kithain settlers of Dudleytown. Most of them were of German or Eastern European stock and so the stuff of their nightmares was vaguely along the lines of Teutonic and Slavic folk monsters. Their name, though, comes from a childling troll named Anna Ruskova who described them as making "schnorrfling" noises as the moved through the woods. Her powers of description leave much to be desired but the sounds they make are sort of sniffing, growling, gurgling and so schnorrfling is probably as accurate a description as anyone is likely to come up with.
The Schnorrflers themselves tend to be between six and nine feet tall and covered with shaggy brown fur. They have uncannily long arms and their curved black claws are capable of inflicting brutal wounds. Their faces are a curiosity, with sad, teddy-bear eyes set above a hideously wide mouth full of yellow teeth. They have no nose and always go naked, though they occasionally they adorn themselves with bones or other less-identifiable things. (Picture Ludo from the Movie Labyrinth as a lot scarier and you get a general idea).
One would think their image would change as the population changed but their image is engraved in the town's subconscious and they have become a self-perpetuating institution. Eshu, chased from town back in the day because of the color of their skin, took tales of the creatures far and wide and so the idea of the Schnorrflers is fueled by the dreams and nightmares of Kithain all over the world.
