D'Souza was born in New Delhi and studied at Harvard University, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Columbia University in the United States. A scholar of occult history, his academic focus is on the appropriation of Asian mysticism by Western occultists.
At some point, D'Souza was in Frankfurt, Germany and found himself in the midst of a vicious attack by the Sabbat. He survived uninjured but not unscathed: shaken, he has begun quietly studying and pursuing covert actions against the Kindred. This largely consists of tipping off the Inquisition or other known vampire-hunters as to the location of possible havens, although D'Souza is known to encourage younger members of his organization to quietly investigate on their own.
