Rites of the Corax are a type of Rite from Werewolf: The Apocalypse. They were first introduced in the Werewolf Players Guide and are exclusive to the Corax, except for the Rite of Talisman Dedication and Rite of Becoming.

Overview[]

The Corax use the Rite of Talisman Dedication and the Rite of Becoming fairly commonly, plus a few other Garou rites less frequently. However, they have a few tricks on their own, too.

Rites of the Corax List[]

  • Level One[1]
    • Rite of Talisman Dedication (Mystic) - This is identical to the Garou rite.
  • Level Two[2]
    • Eyes of the Flock (Mystic) - The Corax using this rite can use the eyes of other corvids to see everything.
    • Rite of Becoming (Mystic) - As the Garou Gift.
    • Rite of the Fetish Egg (Mystic) - Corax reproduce by taking some of their own Gnosis and binding it into a "spirit egg" that then gets tied to a human infant or an unhatched raven child. Eventually, the fetish egg hatches, suffusing the target with spiritual energy and triggering her First Change. Spirit eggs are kept hidden in the Umbra, as many predators (mages, Black Spiral Dancers) covet them and the spiritual energy they contain.
    • Rite of the Sun's Bright Ray (Mystic) - Corax are special children of the Sun and, as such, can occasionally channel Helios' brilliance. When the Rite is performed properly, it illuminates the Corax's vicinity with true sunlight - which generally makes any vampires in the area unhappy.
  • Level Four[3]
    • Morrigan: Rite of Battle Blessing (Mystic) - The Rite of Battle Blessing is known only to the three ravens of the Morrigan. One of the most potent rites known to the Corax, this battle song drains the will and strength of targets who hear it - generally one side of a battle the three Morrigan are overflying.
    • Rite of Memory Theft (Punishment) - Corax use this rite to siphon the memories from a wereraven who has done something particularly stupid. If the rite succeeds, the target Corax loses any and all memories back to the time of his First Change. The memories are taken up by another Corax who, it's hoped, can use the knowledge to rectify whatever screwup has been made.

Tengu Rites[]

The Tengu can be fairly erratic creatures, and do not devote quite as much time to their rituals as do other hengeyokai. They regularly use the Rite of Talisman Dedication to keep their favorite trinkets with them in all forms, and the Rite of Becoming is also a favored standby. However, they are willing custodians of many of the Courts' less stringent Punishment Rites. Elder Tengu are master of versions of the Stone of Scorn and Satire Rite, and are all too glad to perform them when necessary. Many an errant hengeyokai had been shamed into a life of virtue after watching the Tengu, wearing their ridiculous Crinos forms, hopping and squawking their way through a satirized version of the offender's deeds.

  • Level Two[4]
    • Rite of the Fetish Egg (Mystic) - This is probably the most important rite a Tengu can learn; without it, there would be no future generations of wereravens. The Tengu pours some of his own spiritstuff into an Umbral spirit egg, where it grows and matures, eventually hatching into a full-fledged Tengu spirit and binding with the now-adolescent youngling.

Werewolf: The Wild West Corax Rites[]

The Corax have a number of rites, some of which are similar to those of the Garou (particularly the rite of Talisman Dedication). Others are unique to the raven folk.

  • Level Two[5]
    • Rite of the Fetish Egg (Mystic) - This is the rite used to create new Corax.
    • Rite of the Sun's Bright Ray (Mystic) - This rite will bring light into a dark area, even underground. The whole area is suddenly lit with a bright golden glow, which affect vampires as does sunlight. The light remains for one hour per success on a Gnosis roll (difficulty 7).
  • Level Four[6]
    • Morrigan: Rite of the Battle Blessing (Mystic) - This rite, which is only permitted to be known by three specially chosen elder Corax (called the Morrigan) at a time, allows the Corax to tip the tide of battle in favor of one side or another. All three Morrigan must be present for this rite to be used, which means it will seldom be seen in most games (much less learned by all but the most exceptional players), but when it is used its effects are devastating. Each Morrgan may spend Gnosis Traits up to the limit of her Occult Ability, and for each Gnosis Trait spent by the Morrigan victims of this rite are considered one Trait down on all Challenges while they remain on battlefield. Targets cannot be down more Traits than it would take to reduce them to zero. This rite should not be allowed to become a regular factor in a game, as it remains one of the most potent advantages Raven has given his Children and he does not like to see it used often or unwisely, as such usage robs it of its power and mystique.
    • Rite of Memory Theft (Punishment) - This rite allows a group of Corax to plunder the memory of another Corax, usually one found guilty of dangerous stupidity. The Corax enacting the rite gain the benefit of the victim's knowledge, while the victim becomes as ignorant as a fledgling.
