Richard was a vampire of unspecified Clan who resided in London. He began dating Jane so he could use her to steal the Tremere journal from Winters; as a librarian, she would be able to tell the real journal apart from the dummy it was stored with, and the magical wards on it were only tuned to vampires. He secretly fed her his blood mixed with wine in order to create a blood bond so that she would do as he asked.
Richard seemed surprised to learn that Jane was not human, but did not press her to reveal her nature until after she'd retrieved the journal. In response, she killed him and left the dummy journal in his flat, knowing this would trigger a war between Richard's Clan and the Tremere. When Richard expressed surprise that the blood bond didn't work, Jane told him it was because Ananasi do not feel love.
