The Reckoning describes the metaplot events that transpired between Mage: The Ascension Second Edition and Revised Edition. These were catastrophic for the Traditions and represent the effective end of the Ascension War.

The Ascension Warrior lead an attack on Horizon that largely destroyed the Traditions' headquarters. The initial attack also touched off the Conflagration that consumed Doissetep, which in turn led to White Wednesday and the near-destruction of the Digital Web.
The Week of Nightmares[]

The Ravnos Antediluvian rose in Bangladesh in June 1999, prompting the Technocracy to use special nuclear weapons in an attempt to stop its rampage. At the same time, two relic nuclear weapons were detonated in the Underworld, one in Enoch and one within the Labyrinth. These explosions triggered the Avatar Storm, which destroyed many Horizon Realms and made travel across the Gauntlet extraordinarily difficult for mages. This left both the Traditions and the Technocracy cut off from many of their leaders and off-world resources.
