Project: Crosshairs is the research project of the Tremere Clan to study the Kuei-jin.
Overview[]
While preliminary studies were already enacted in Hong Kong, the Great Leap Outward has seen to a rise of Kuei-jin outside their sphere of influence. The chantries in Sacramento, California and Las Vegas became the main centers of research, headed by the Regent of San Francisco, Luna Demian. Demian is responsible for ferrying captured Kuei-jin into these research centers for further studies.
Among the first discoveries of Project: Crosshairs are that the Kuei-jin are apparently unable to become blood bonded. This setback was then alleviated by the development of ward against Kuei-jin from their blood which serve to create safe havens within the New Promise Mandarinate. Another is that they cannot pass on the Embrace or create ghouls. The Project now focuses on what causes the appearence of Kuei-jin, whether their "Second Breath" is a seasonal, celestial or ritual affair, or if it requires consent. From the intel of the Scourge of San Jose, the Tremere have also learned of a three-eyed figure named Zao-lat that features in the early myths of the Kuei-jin, causing some of their Elders to believe that they might have found a divergent line of Salubri.
Within the Camarilla, only the Prince of San Francisco, the Inner Circle and the Tremere involved in the project know of this research. The information is deliberatly kept outside of public knowledge to avoid Mass Embrace tactics against Kuei-jin incursions that could threaten the Masquerade. Until now, the Tremere pay handsome fees to anyone who can manage to capture a Kuei-jin alive.
