Pioneer Valley

The Pioneer Valley is a region in western Massachusetts. Once the heart of a major Garou sept of almost thirty individuals, the region came under attack from the Answering Tiger at the turn of the decade and has since dwindled to less than a dozen Garou inhabitants.

Geography[]

The Pioneer Valley—its official name is the Connecticut River Valley—encompasses, from north to south, Franklin County, Hampshire County, and Hampden County. The region is primarily agricultural, though it also contains the Five Colleges (including Smith College in Northampton and UMass in Amherst). Major geographic features include the Mount Tom mountain range and the Connecticut River.

The Berkshires lie west of the Valley, and beyond those mountains, the state of New York. The state of Vermont is north of the Valley, and the state of Connecticut to the south. Boston, capital of Massachusetts, is two hours away to the east; beyond Boston is Cape Cod, which includes the tourist destination of Provincetown. New York City is about three hours to the southwest of the Valley by car.

According to the Everlite Drone, the Pioneer has become a nexus of Garou activity in the past few years, attracting both Fenrir and Black Spiral Dancers alike, because it is an obvious example of a location largely insulated from the effects of the wider Era of Apocalypse. Not too hot, inland enough to survive the melting of the ice caps, politically stable (relatively speaking), a hub of technically literate yet incurious and politically apathetic humans, and a prime base from which werewolves can launch their final operations, whatever they might be.
