Pattern Eaters are Moirae that help or trick others into parting with their destinies.
Biography[]
Description[]
“ | Weight of the world on your shoulders? Let me help. | ” |
Once servants of Fate who devoured the remnants of Fate’s plans, these Moirae were banished to the Hedge when they stole the Fate of a living man, shattering Fate’s plans. They lurk there still, waylaying travelers and taking their destinies; others set up shop in Goblin Markets. They do not engage in fair fights, and will often flee if pressed.
Appearance[]
Pattern Eaters appear as horse-sized grey spiders, though they have only four visible legs; their other four are almost invisible, existing only in a metaphysical sense. These Moirae are spindly creatures, lacking muscle on their legs, and their bodies are easily broken.

Fae Aspects[]
- Fate-Eating: When grappling, the Pattern Eater may devour the threads of Fate connected to the victim, requiring turns equal to the target’s Morality (or equivalent) rating. The Pattern Eater regains all Glamour and one Health, while the target loses any Fate-based effects, including Fate links, personas, prophesies, curses, and other effects. Active pledges are not lost, though the effects of broken ones are. Fate-based powers that target the victim suffer a -2 dice penalty. In the eyes of Fate, the character should not exist.
Every morning, instead of gaining a point of Willpower, victims of a Pattern Eater lose a point of Willpower as the crushing sense of their own pointlessness beats down on them. If a character has no remaining Willpower when she sleeps, she will wake with a mild Derangement (usually Depression). Creatures of Fate recognize the character as an aberration, and will generally react with hostility or active violence to her. Forging a new destiny requires, at a bare minimum, weeks of effort pushing themselves back onto a destined path, or actively throwing themselves into Fate-heavy situations in the hopes that something will stick. Once the Storyteller rules that a character has regained Fate’s interest, she may spend a point of permanent Willpower (which can be purchased back with experience as usual) in order to recover her Fate, removing all benefits and penalties of her broken destiny.
