The Palatine Knights were a sect of warrior-mystics loyal to Charlemagne, part of the future foundation of the Celestial Chorus.
Overview[]
On November 11, 800, the Palatine Knights (or simply Paladins) were established in Aix-la-Chappelle, swearing the Palatine Creed to defend mankind from vampires, shapechangers, changelings, demons, sorcerers, and other forces of darkness.[1]
In the 12th century, the Palatines reorganized into a secret society. Over the course of centuries, the Palatines persisted, although over half their number joined the Cabal of Pure Thought in the 1300s. They have variously been known as the Palatine Knights, Palatine Brotherhood, the Fellowship of the Hammer, and the Palatine Society for Gentlemen. The modern incarnation of the society still draws membership primarily from the Celestial Chorus, though not exclusively; a willingness to fight the forces of darkness is more important than denomination. The order's decentralized leadership structure kept it running smoothly after the Reckoning. Their symbol is a hammer, in honor of Charlemagne's grandfather Charles the Hammer.[2]
