The Operative Methodology is the covert-intelligence branch of the New World Order. These secret agents work in the field to gather information to protect security in the Union and ensure the security of the Masses. This usually involves monitoring and destroying Reality Deviants. These brave men and women are the eyes and ears of the Technocracy. They are also placed in Sleeper intelligence agencies around the world. If Agencies like the CIA, KGB, or Mossad know something, it's likely an Operative knows it as well or will know it soon.

Much of what the operatives exactly do is classified information. [[Tradition (MTAs)|Tradition]] propaganda paints them as perpetrators of abuses against the Masses, who come and erase the minds of those who witnessed supernatural acts, leaving them as mental vegetables. Even within the Union, most are uneasy around them. The Operatives themselves do nothing to discourage such rumors.
When a Traditionalist thinks about the Technocratic Union, 'Black Hats and Mirrorshades' is one of the first images that come to mind. This comes right from the '''Men in Black'''. Men in Black are the shock troops of the Convention and, true to their name, there is gender disparity. Most of them are in fact men. Often thought to be soulless, mindless, constructs without independent will. While this does include some of them, it is not all of them. Every Operative starts out for a time in the Men in Black. Some of them aren't even Enlightened but Extraordinary Citizens. Their most common task is the capture or destruction of Reality Deviants of all kinds. Often mistaken for government agents, they can act with little trouble from the Sleepers, many of whom have hazy memories of the event afterward anyway do to subtle memory altering effects. Sometime ensuring the safety and security of the Masses means making sure they don't even remember there was a problem.

'''Grey Suits''' are the more experienced Operatives and have a greater gender parity than the Men in Black. They are the assassins, impersonators, thieves and sabotage experts of the Convention. While many work in the shadows, others work quite openly by assuming identities of Tradition Mages under intense hypnosis and memory implantation. Many Traditionalists worry about cyborgs and Men in Black without ever knowing their greatest threat may be a member of their cabal who isn't what they appear to be. There isn't always time to intensely scan an encountered wayward mage and even if they did the submerging of memories can be so deep as to be impenetrable.

While the Black Suits and Grey Men act on the front lines, '''Intelligence Analysts''' organize them and interpret data gathered by them. A misleading name, the '''Men in White''' are as often female as male. They are the Masters among the Operatives and are responsible for monitoring the loyalty of individuals. They have almost universal ability to question anyone they choose: anyone of a lesser rank can be interrogated by them, no matter their Convention. Their other responsibilities include security for Horizon Realms, ideological conformity in Constructs, and regional reports to the highest ranking Technocrats.

Often considered its own Methodology, '''Q Division''' has its own chain of command and answers only to the Men in White. The highest ranks of the Operatives are the leaders of the New World Order as a whole. They are therefore widely respected and a little feared. More than a little feared. The Blacks and Greys, though, are often viewed as little more than uneducated grunts. That being said, there's no telling if the Man in Black of today will be the Man in White of tomorrow, so most members of the NWO treat them delicately.

The Operatives are a Methodology of the New World Order focused on the capture or elimination of Reality Deviants and espionage.

They specialize in Mind and Forces.

History

While some seek the origin of the Operatives in the long-lost Ksirafai, others point to the Torch faction of the Lightkeepers or the Skeleton Keys of Rathbone. Whatever their real origin is, the Operatives were first utilized against Czar Vargo and his mad scheme to achieve world peace by demanding that the governments of the world should submit to him in 1914. Agent Rupert Sparrow proved himself the most capable of their number when his infiltration of Vargo's followers resulted in vicious infighting that stopped the self-proclaimed Zeppelin Emperor before he could have done more damage.

Sparrow's methods became standard among the Operatives. Since then, they have seeded every single secret service around the world, from the CIA to the KGB. Since the rise of Reality Deviants in the 1950s, the Operatives relied on cloning technology from the Progenitors to keep their numbers up. Implanting the image of the "Men in Black" into the public consciousness, the Operatives manipulated the Consensus in their advantage and allowed many of them to pass as government officials.

Culture

Much of what the operatives exactly do is classified information. Tradition propaganda paints them as perpetrators of abuses against the Masses, who come and erase the minds of those who witnessed supernatural acts, leaving them as mental vegetables. Even within the Union, most are uneasy around them. The Operatives themselves do nothing to discourage such rumors.

Structure

Unlike other Methodologies, the Operatives have a clear ranking system separate from that of their Convention.

  • Blacksuits (Men in Black): These agents work as shock troops against reality crimes. Many of their numbers are clones, with a high number of unAwakened and Extraordinary Citizen among them. Their tasks include assaulting Tradition outposts, driving back invading entities from other realms, reeducating sleepers and operating procession.
  • Greysuits (Men in Grey): The Men in Grey are infiltrators and spies that often operate in enemy territory. Their focus are the Traditions, but other Deviant organizations are also targeted at times. When the Greysuit determines that a group is a threat to the Union, they neutralize the danger by destabilizing it. Greysuits have a dangerous tendency of insubordination, and the majority of them are Awakened.
  • Whitesuits (Men in White): The Men in White enforce the edicts of Control within the Technocratic Union itself. Members of all conventions fear them, as they have the authority to question or process any member of the Union they deem a threat. In most cases, they spend their time guarding Constructs.
  • Intelligence Analyst: In contrast to the "suits", analysts mostly stay behind to evaluate information they get from agents and allied methodologies. They are also responsible for assigning agents of the New World Order to agents of other Conventions.
