Nigel Derek Findley[1] (22 July 1959 – 19 February 1995)[2] was a role-playing game author, game designer, editor, and an author of science fiction and fantasy novels.
Biography[]
Findley was born in Venezuela, and lived in Spain, Nigeria, the United States, and England before his family settled in Vancouver when he was ten.[2]
He started as a RPG author in the mid 1980s and it was his full time career by 1990. He authored or coauthored over one hundred books, including twelve novels, before his death. He wrote for most game companies in the industry including TSR, but is best known for his work on Shadowrun where he was an original core author and designer. Findley's 1990 Shadorrun adventure, The Universal Brotherhood was particularly well-received.[3] He also won a 1992 Origins Award for GURPS Illuminati, and was inducted into the Origins Awards Hall of Fame in 1995.
Findley died suddenly on 19 February 1995, at his home in Vancouver,[2] from a heart attack at the age of 35. The Nigel D. Findley Memorial Award was given for the best role-playing product of the year between 1995 and 2001.
