Nicola Michaud was a Parisian whose parents were targeted by the Nazi occupation during World War II. Michaud eventually went on the run, documenting all that he experienced with the pen his father had bought him in childhood.

At some point during his travails, his pen awoke as a spirit and drove him further in his recordings — especially as he collected the names of every collaborator he could find, a list that would find its way to the most vicious of the resistance's leaders.
