Necropolitan is a krewe Archetype for Sin-Eaters. These krewes devote themselves with building social ties between the living and the dead.
Necropolitans are motivated by compassion for the lost and lonely as much as by an ideology of death. The models for their rituals range from twelve-step programs to supper clubs to jazz funerals, and often involve an element of touch: hugging, dancing, handshakes, and so on. While Pilgrims believe that shedding attachments helps the dead move on, Necropolitans celebrate the bonds that make life and afterlife more bearable for everyone. The openness of their practices can be offputting to other Sin-Eaters, who are accustomed to secrecy and subterfuge. Others would just rather be left alone.
For many Necropolitans, their ideal world is one where the dead remain present among the living, known and acknowledged, even by those who can't perceive them. Failing that sort of revolution, they believe a strong social safety net is the best defense against threats like Reapers and ghost eaters, and the best solution for angry or hostile ghosts. They are the most likely to network with other krewes, keeping information flowing and offering back-up in a crisis, which makes them the glue that holds the community together (whether the rest of the community likes it or not). The very term krewe was popularized by a Necropolitan group, Le Krewe LaBas, formed in New Orleans in 1920.
Manipulators and abusers can find a home within Necropolitan organizations, worming their way into positions of influence to cover for their bad behavior. While many Necropolitan crews value forgiveness and reconciliations, these ideals can get twisted to enable unrepentant misbehavior ... at least until the Furies show up. On a larger scale, entire krewes can turn to organized crime or political corruption while still exerting tremendous social influence on the dead and the Bound of an area.
Necropolitan krewes know the ceremonies The Lovers’ Telephone (•), Crow Girl Kiss (••), and Dumb Supper (•••).
