Muse is an 11th generation Daughter of Cacophony and member of the Les Misérables Sabbat pack in Montréal. A servant of the demon Metathiax, she hums a song to keep the bestial creatures of her lord in check – and is secretly guarded by Leperhead, the Black Spiral Dancer.

Biography[]

Muse was one of the few survivors of the Creation Rites that the Sabbat performed at the cursed Mount Royale around 1800. She was found much later, feeding from people infected with typhus during the epidemic of 1847.

Muse's eyes were permanently closed by the demon Metathiax so she cannot see the evil nature of the demon's actions. She never speaks a word, and only hummed a strange soothing lullaby. Few realize that Muse is one of Metathiax's servants, and her power to soothe was used by the Decani to keep his herd of tortured creatures from becoming completely bestial.

Muse was put into Preacher's care until 1851, when a July fire destroyed a quarter of Montréal. She vanished during the confusion, but was seen multiple times near the various quarantine stations during the cholera epidemics of 1854 and typhus epidemic of 1918. Some believe that Muse has been responsible for spreading diseases across the region.

It was only in 1981 that Elias the Whale rediscovered Muse wandering through the sewer system. She was again taken into the fold of Les Misérables, but this time was allowed to dwell in the sewers (except when participating in Sabbat Rites). She is a beautiful woman with honey blonde hair under a mat of filth. Her clothing is tattered and torn and Elias has covered her eyes with a red bandanna. The one mystery that confounds Elias is Muse's change of clothing. She wears the flesh jacket that Véronique La Cruelle made from the Setite Moise. Elias does not know that Metathiax gave her the jacket as a gift after she turned Véronique into one of his bestial thralls.

Muse spends her nights singing softly in the underbelly of Montréal. Elias, who watches over her when he can, suspects she is singing a lullaby to the sewers. As far as he can tell, she believes it is somehow alive, and she is singing to keep it from awakening. And the thought of what might be inside the sewers frightens him.
