Mourner is a possible Archetype for Sin-Eaters.
Second Edition[]
Mourner krewes explore the Underworld in search of art, knowledge and artifacts lost to the world of the living.
Some Mourners have a purely academic interest in recovering and collating information, while others rejoice in reviving this knowledge in a hodge-podge of rite and rituals. They also pursue more personal matters, such as bringing back a ghost's final message to their loved ones, or providing answers to a bereaved family about how someone died. They frequently explore deep into the Underworld in search of their quarry, and along with Pilgrims, they maintain some of the most details maps of the Underworld and its strange geography. Mourners are the archivists and librarians of the Bound, tending to their records with reverential detail.
Many of the practices of Mourners are centered around improving information transmission and storage. This includes establishing a high level of redundancy, as they know far better than most how easily information can be lost. They also, like Necropolitans, aspire to productive interchange between the living and the dead, allowing ghosts to pass on their wisdom from beyond the veil.
Mourner krewes often like a little healthy competition, but like many academics, they are also prone to bouts of ego, petty in-fighting, and ivory tower elitism. Other krewes find the information they gather is too valuable to share freely, and turn to extortion, blackmail, or espionage. Someone who really needs to keep a secret may need to hire a Mourner krewe to scour it from living memory and dead memory alike.
Mourner krewes automatically learn the ceremonies The Diviner’s Jawbone (•), Gifts of Persephone (••) and Bloody Codex (•••).
