Miclántecuhtli is the Aztec god of the dead and a member of the Aztlánti pantheon.
Overview[]
The Aztec Underworld is called Mictlán, and Mictlántecuhtli is its master. There's no mistaking him for anything else. Mictlán is skeletally thin, with clawed fingers that can rip a soul to shreds; his black hair is peppered with white stars. His clothes are made of bark paper, and they do not his the gaping wound in his torso, from which his liver protrudes. Even when he passes as human, his face has an unhealthy flush and is pocked with sores.
In the modern World, Miclántecuhtli has found other ways to destroy souls that are just as satisfying as claws. He can be found in any petty bureaucracy, or the labyrinthine bowels of a large corporation's customer service department, making every interaction as tedious and difficult as possible. The more road blocks he can throw between a mortal and the thing they want or need, the more fun he has — especially when, in the end, the victim realizes they didn't actually want what they struggled to get.
Miclántecuhtli's Scions share his schadenfreude, although perhaps not to the same extremes as their father. Unfortunately, they are just as likely to be victims of his torments as anyone else, and Miclántecuhtli delights in their misery the same as any other person's.
