A meret is an allied group of Arisen, who may share their cults, tombs, or other resources.

Overview[]

Merets often form due to the presence of common threats, but that is not the only reason they form.[1] A meret can help support each other's Memory, or simply provide the companionship of a creature like one's self, without the gulfs of power and time that separate mummies from their cultists.[2][3]

Members of a meret may Descend at the same time, but that is no guarantee that they have taken the same path to get there; the unpredictable nature of where in the timeline a given Arisen will awaken means that the most recent Descent for one member of the meret might be far in the past for another, and for a third, it hasn't happened yet.[4] Of course, outside of a Sothic Turn, it's quite common for only one member of a meret to be active at a time, while the others remain in henet.[5][6]

Merets in Play[]

Having multiple Arisen player characters is suitable for an epic chronicle, but may be overpowered for other kinds of stories. Troupe play allows players to alternate between playing an Arisen character and playing a cultist, Sadikh, or some other character affiliated with the meret.[7][8]
