The Medieval Handbook is written in the hand of a monk. Peter of Aalen, traveling monk and brilliant theologian, offers his perspective on Europe of the 12^th century. Particularly valuable to Ars Magica players, the book also presents the Hermetic perspective on their time.

The Medieval Handbook has both logos of Wizards of the Coast and White Wolf on the back cover of the book.
The opening insert of the book has the following message:
- A Short Good-bye
- This supplement marks the end of an era, the beginning of a new one and the renewal of an old one. Confused? Don’t worry. The Medieval Handbook is the last Ars Magica book that White Wolf is publishing. The game line is now in the hands of Wizards of the Coast, under the control of Lisa Stevens, former member of White Wolf and Lion Rampant (if you can remember that far back). Everything old is new again. We’re sad to see Ars Magica go, but we know Wizards will do an excellent job, bringing their own style to the game. Farewell.
Wizards of the Coast would then go on to publish about three other Ars Magica books from 1994-1995, and Atlas Games would later buy the license from them to make the 4th edition of the game.
