Maimonides (also known as Rabbi Moshe Ben Maimon, often shortened to Rambam) was a powerful Jewish kabbalist mage that achieved what many would deem impossible – reversing the curse of Caine.
Biography[]
Maimonides has been active since the 10th century. Few of his precise activities are known to others, although it is reported that he was a courtier to Saladin and had contact with the Nosferatu Khalid al-Rashid. His fortune was great enough that the Assamite Talaq turned to him when he wanted a way to regain his humanity. In 1515, both made a deal. Maimonides would transform Talaq back into a human who would not lose the benefit of immortality, while Talaq would use his influence to guarantee the protection of Jerusalem and the construction of a wall around the Old City of Jerusalem. While the vampire was suspicious, as he was to gain much more than Maimonides from that deal, he agreed and the mage kept his word.
Maimonides survived the coming ages and eventually assumed a position in the Mossad of the newly founded nation of Israel. In contrast to many mages of his age, he did not seclude himself from his community, instead living among them using the pseudonym of a retired teacher named Mr. Klein. Only government officials and some initiated supernaturals knew of his true name and profession, and only a handful of them knew his true nature. Using his influence on Talaq, who had become the ruler of Petra and Jordan, he made sure that Jordan would not interfere in Israel's plans to secure the West Bank.
Maimonides and his apprentice Elisha later aided in finding a cure for the Red Death. Maimonides offered a vampire his apprentice had fallen in love with, one Madeleine Giovanni, mortality, but she rejected it out of loyalty to her family. One of his other apprentices, his son Ezra, instead turned to Pentex and the Maeljin Incarna Lord Steel for power and to permanently safeguard Israel from the threats that surrounded it. He tried to incite the Giovanni against Maimonides and his fellow apprentices, telling her sire Pietro of the Jewish mage's offer. Maimonides was later visited by Madeleine Giovanni, who wanted his help and warn him that one of his pupils had turned against him. Ezra used this moment where the guards of his master were down to attack him. Maimonides proved himself unable to harm his own child and transferred that duty to Madeleine.
