Mahtiel, The Sleeper, is a Warrior Salubri of great renown. She is one of the Twelve conspirators of Hunedoara bound to the demon Nikanuuranu.

Biography[]

Her longtime partner and lover Rothriel was, like her, a grand-childe of Samiel, the founder of their bloodline. They shared a bond that became legendary among their peers, but everything changed after Saulot's diablerie, for Rothriel was among the few who disavowed violence, believing that preserving the legacy of their Antediluvian would be more important than avenging him. He tried to convince Mahtiel to seek Golconda, but after a heated argument the pair separated.

One night she heard through her own blood her lover's plea of help. Rothriel had traveled far and was faced with a Tremere host that had taken control over Hunedoara Castle. He had been moved by the pleas of his friend, Danika Ruthven, and having no love for the Tremere Rothriel joined the fray against the wizards. Overwhelmed by the combined efforts of the Tremere Regent and his Gargoyles, the Salubri was forced to sacrifice himself to defeat his opponents.

Mahtiel felt their blood bond shatter and was drawn to Hunedoara. It is said that only the sincerity of Danika's grief and her dedication to Rothriel's memory that saved her from the wrath of Mahtiel. Having no more foes to slay, the Salubri Warrior simply gathered his ashes and rode away into the night.

Eventually Mahtiel returned and fell victim to the Pact that had ensnared Rothriel and the castle's other inhabitants. She has retreated into torpor in pursuit of her memories of Rothriel, appearing to the others only as an astral projection – save for the nights when the Twelve are needed to renew the Pact. During those times she is able to stir herself out of torpor, if just barely.
