Lorenco Gil is a Progenitor and the Administrative Vice President of the Life Sciences Research and Development division of Pearl Paradigms in Hong Kong. He has an apartment in the sublevels of the Pearl Paradigm building was well as a getaway home in Lantau.
Biography
Lorenco is from the Portuguese colony of Macao. He showed an early aptitude to science, especially biology, that a teacher of his, who was secretly a recruiter for the Progenitors, recommended him for a scholarship to study bioengineering at Stanford University. He was Awakened and inducted into the Convention by his advisor.
He now oversees the Life Sciences R&D as Administrative Vice President for Pearl Paradigms. Lorenco works on a number of secret projects but mostly supervises the "life-enhancement" products that Pearl Paradigms markets. He is concerned about the development of a "clean drug" for the selective sterilization of certain elements of the population. He gets his test subjects from flesh peddlers, who think they are selling to a wealthy business man from Macao for his personal and disposable entertainment. In some ways, his suppliers are right.
Lorenco loves the Hong Kong nightlife, a byproduct of his American education and exposure. He sees it as the perfect way to combine business with pleasure. Lorenco was concerned initially about the changeover. He had mixed feelings. He had taken advantage of Hong Kong's free-market mentality and high rate of consumerism to distribute his products throughout the territory. He thought there would be repressive social measures as China secured her grip on the colony. Though not originally implemented it has slowly been happening and Lorenzo feels a large number of discontented people seek some release and buy products such as "stress medications" and "homeopathic tinctures".
He is also responsible for the longevity treatments for Pearl Paradigm upper echelons. All of them expect to survive the fifty-year grace period China has granted Hong Kong.
Appearance
Lorenco has olive-coloured skin and black, curly hair. He dresses in conservative suits for dealing with his peers within the company, but he changes into street wear when he hits the streets to conduct "field research". His smile and studied geniality win him many instant friends and ready guinea pigs for his latest "feel-good" medications.
