The Long Night is, in Cainite society, the time period that began with the fall of Rome (5th century CE) and ended with the sack of Constantinople during the Fourth Crusade (1204). The Long Night encompasses the Dark Ages and the first part of the Middle Ages. The end of the Long Night heralded the start of the War of Princes; the time frame that spans these two eras is collectively known as the Dark Medieval.
