Alejandro Oathbreaker, Ghost Wolf Ithaeur member of the Lodge of the Storm's Eye

The Lodge of the Storm's Eye is an Ilthaeur lodge that practices a powerful spirit-binding rite.

Overview[]

When a spirit disrupts the Shadow's ecology, Uratha may choose to negotiate with it, drive it away, or simply kill it. But some spirits are too powerful to be overcome, and too alien in their thoughts and desires for diplomacy to be of use. If these spirits cannot be killed -- or if killing them would cause even greater harm, as with powerful spirits of place -- then binding them in a semi-aware state may be the only way to bring them under control.

The lodge originated in ancient Meso-America, where the storm spirit Yurgarath came to the aid of overwhelmed Uratha in the aftermath of the Sundering. Spirits multiplied and mutated wildly, and the People were too few and too scattered to control them. Yurgarath taught the Ilthaeurs among them a rite that could bind even the most powerful of spirits, and set Bright Condor as their totem spirit. Bright Condor embodies a terrifying predator in his own right, and the spirits of the Americas are rightfully intimidated by his chosen children. He is also a close associate of Helios, and Helions are unusually well-disposed towards this Lodge.

The Lodge of the Storm's Eye does not exist as a unified international entity; regional variations often take the names of storm gods from the local belief system, so the "Lodge of Quetzocoatl" or the "Lodge of Viracochan" share the same totem and the same rites but colored by their local culture and history. The initiation process involves catching the attention of Bright Condor by crafting an icon of some sort, and then binding a condor-spirit into it to form a fetish.

Game Mechanics[]

Prerequisites[]

All applicants must be of the Ithaeur auspice. There are no other requirements for entry.

Benefits[]

Members receive a +2 on all Fetish Rite rolls to create a condor idol in the future. They may also buy the Rite: Shackle Spirit with experience points. The costs of purchasing or raising Occult and Survival becomes new dots x2 instead of new dots x3.

Fetishes[]

Condor Idol (••): A Condor Idol allows the carrier to fly in the Shadow Realm (and only in the Shadow Realm) with the grace and speed of a condor-spirit.

Rites[]

Shackle Spirit (•••): This ritual allows the Uratha to bind a troublesome spirit in a state of near-slumber. The spirit remains nominally aware of its surroundings, but is incapable of movement, reasoning thought or employing its powers. The spirit remains where it was bound, and can usually be plied for simple information (but not to bestow Gifts). The rite must be regularly refreshed in order to keep the spirit bound, and any spirit who escapes its bonds would surely seek revenge on those who bound it.
