Barnumbirr, Hunter in Darkness Elodoth member of the Lodge of the Firestick
The Lodge of the Firestick is an Australian lodge committed to land management through fire.
Overview[]
Lodge members tell the story of how the spirit Bushfire was accidentally unleashed on the land, and how Gudaga, the first Uratha, tamed it by denying it anything to burn.[1] Members are skilled at using controlled burns to manage the risk of wildfires, protect land from development, drive out harmful spirits, or control Wounds. They work with spirits of both fire and rain to ensure that only the land that needs to burn will burn, and try to assist fire crews when a burn gets out of control.[2]
While the Hunters in Darkness are the lodge's patron tribe, and the original members were Koori and Murri, any Forsaken may join. The lodge has recently begun to spread beyond Australia to other regions susceptible to forest fires. There are few limits on who may join the lodge; members must learn to make fire without matches, and demonstrate that they understand the role fire plays in the ecology. They are then given a simple brand to signify their membership.[2]
