A blood hunt is a decree given by the Prince, calling upon the ancient Kindred tradition of Lextalionis to declare a Kindred outlaw to be marked for capture and Final Death.

Overview[]

When the death sentence has been issued, all local Kindred are expected to participate in the blood hunt - non-participation could result in loss of personal status, and actual aiding and abetting the outlaw is an offence punishable by banishment if not execution. Even in a blood hunt, the Masquerade must still be preserved.

The traditional legal institution behind the blood hunt is the Lextalionis, or lex talionis, a legal principle that can be summarized as "an eye for an eye". The principles of the Lextalionis and the blood hunt are drawn from the Traditions, which are themselves supposedly derived from The Testament of Longinus.
