Leaping Bear was a Gurahl, and the Buri-Jaan (mentor) of Hezekiah Blake.[1]
Leaping Bear was a member of the Comanche nation, and found a traumatized ten-year-old Hezekiah in a cave, fresh from his First Change and mourning the deaths of his family. Leaping Bear took the boy in, giving him more than just an education in the ways of the Gurahl; he gave Hezekiah a family. After their year of teaching, Leaping Bear insisted that Hezekiah move on, because he had work to do among his own people. However, when Hezekiah settled in Bear Lake, Leaping Bear was an occasional visitor, bringing news about the Storm Eater and other hazards.
