Pele is part of Lono’s family. These gods are associated with the earth and fertility. They are seemingly older gods than the later ones (such as Ku, the war god) introduced by the kahuna Pa’ao.
Pele travels abroad in the land in many guises. Her most famous form is that of an old lady wandering along the road or over the lava flats. It is wise to be nice to her if you see her; otherwise, you might find yourself running from a lava flow or engulfed in a cloud of deadly sulfur
