The Tolerant One
History
When Japan opened to the west, Kiosho Masahiko’s family rose to prominence. They combined financial know how and noble upbringing which brought them wealth and power as they embraced industrialization. Kiosho himself had been directing the family since the time of the Mongol invasion of 1266.
Kiosho was the head of the family in 1266 as well as a warrior. He took part in the repelling of Kublai Khan but fell nobly in battle. Kiosho could not resign his duty as the driving force of the family and his P’o refused to go quietly. Erupting into the Middle Kingdom with determination he continued to be a leader of the Kiosho line.
Kiosho served as mentor to generations of the line and worked diligently to keep up with the times as they kicked it into overdrive during the 20th century. He saw the importance of Hong Kong on post war Asia and opened a branch of his Tokyo based Kiosho Technologies there. With generous gifts to Robert Pedder the company thrived despite local aversion to the Japanese.
The financial collapse of the Hong Kong stock market in 1987 crippled Kiosho Technologies and up until that point Masahiro had delegated the running of the branch to favourite family member. But the fiasco led to his decision to take a more personal hand in the affairs of Hong Kong and with great difficulty moved himself there from Tokyo.
Since the reintegration of Hong Kong to China, Masahiro has been keeping a close eye on the business community pulse. He is quite uncertain as to his and his company’s future. His ties to the Kin-jin are worthless now and his relationship to Anguo Chun is tenuous at best. He is planning on backing the Victorious Whirlwind, banking on their need for allies.
Kiosho Masahiro has adopted modern dress as a sign of his willingness to change (at least superficially) with the times. He appears to be in his mid-30s and has a hard-angled face that seldom conveys emotion. Masahiro’s supreme confidence in his decisions shows in authoritative speech and in the ways he carries himself. (World of Darkness: Hong Kong, p. 73.)
