Jon Fairmont is a member of Verbena.

Initiation[]

Jon was an environmental activist before he Awakened. On Halloween 1993, while spiking trees in a section of forest slated for clear-cutting, he was caught by two men with rifles. They fatally shot Jon's colleague Frances, but Jon was rescued by Jarrol, a Verbena mage who killed the two assailants and sacrificed them to one of the trees in the grove.[1] He was later brought to a chantry along with Teague O'Connel, Aileen Wilkinson, Deborah Gray, Kameria Shula, and Takoda Walking-Bear to be initiated into the Tradition.

On Imbolc, while learning the history of the Tradition, Jon had a vision of a past life in which he willingly sacrificed his life to heal his son. Unlike some of the visions of his cabal-mates, he found his strangely peaceful.[2] Several months later, he stepped in when Kameria was accosted by a stranger at the coven's Beltaine celebration; he drew the stag-headed man away from her, but also stopped Deborah from stabbing the stranger with a kitchen knife. The stranger turned out to be Lindara in disguise. That evening, he and Kameria made love for the first time, enacting the Wiccan Great Rite.[3]

Before the coven's Lammas celebration, Jon and the other initiates were subjected to a mock kidnapping and the illusion of being tortured in order to Awaken them fully.[4] The following Beltaine, he and Kameria were married, and along with their coven-mates, founded a chantry of their own called New Hope Farm.[5]

Death[]

The end of the Ascension War affected Jon badly. By 2003, he confided in Kameria that he felt the Earth was doomed, and there no longer any point in fighting for magic or the Old Ways. However, the appearance of a dying cu sith at the coven's Beltaine festival seemed to rouse something within him.[6]

At Midsummer, the coven offered instruction to a circle of new initiates. During the ritual afterwards, Kameria sacrificed Jon to revive the Node beneath the farm, a death he freely chose.[7] Jon was survived by Kameria herself and their unborn child.[8]
