Joey Duncan is a twelve-year-old child currently acting as the target of the Children's Contract.

An altogether ordinary child, Duncan was stolen away alongside the nephew of King Queen Jackie Snow and hidden in the Hedge by Red Wren, who put the blame on the True Fae to manipulate Snow into accepting the use of the ritual.
Duncan is an odd boy, with even odder eyes — at times they seem a deep well of wisdom, at others emptier than a pit. He is surprisingly athletic, given his stick-thin build, being able to break into a sprint at a moment's notice. Given enough stress, Duncan has been known to shut down entirely.
During the ritual itself, one Cancer John frees Duncan under a cover of invisibility via a potent Token. Somewhere in the Hedge, John loses track of him, leaving Duncan in the hands of an insane Manikin called Doll, who wishes to use Duncan’s parts to make his ventriloquist doll human.
A group of the local freehold's changelings frees him, and with him, they escape back to the mortal world, whereupon they and the rest of the freehold either subject him to the Children's Contract in full or protest it, acting against Red Wren.
