Inothiel the Herald is an angel who sided with God's betrayer following the angelic war in Heaven.

Overview[]

One possible nature of That Which Lies Beneath Bishopsgate detailed in Asylum, Inothiel is an angel of God originally sent out to discuss terms with the Betrayer's court, collectively known as the Dark Ones. However, they managed rather easily to seduce the Herald from God's side. In punishment, Inothiel too was cast out of Heaven, landing beneath the mounds near what would become Bishopsgate Mental Asylum.

Unsurprisingly, the corrupted angel's presence began to warp the surrounding land, leading the natives to shun the land and warn off any who were otherwise unaware, including settlers of European origin like Daniel Shepherd and James Teesdale.

When Reverend Benjamin Bodycombe acquired the land that Teesdale had built directly upon the mounds, Inothiel made contact with him via the Holy Ones, eventually culminating in the suicide of Bodycombe and nearly all of his followers.

By modern times, nearly all of the supernatural troubles haunting Bishopsgate can be drawn back to the Herald’s ire, which only grows as he rots and starves in his prison.
