Inis Oírr, or Inisheer, is one of the three main islands of the Aran Islands in Ireland.
Overview[]
Nearest to the mainland of Ireland, a short hop by air from the town of Doolin on the coast of Clare, the island of Inisheer contains the ruins of St. Cavan's Church, a 13th century building which is the site for a yearly pilgrimage in honor of the island's patron saint, and O'Brien Castle, a 14th century edifice demolished by Cromwell in 1652.
