The Independent Alliance is an alliance of the Giovanni and the Followers of Set described in Mind's Eye Theatre: Vampire: The Masquerade

Overview Edit

Following the Nights of Turmoil, the Sabbat focused its attentions on the remaining Independent Clans as those closest to their Antediluvians (as well as representing softer targets than the Camarilla). The Setites and the Giovanni both suffered significant losses, and in 2008 Augustus Giovanni was abducted by unknown assailants. In response, the Giovanni withdrew from the Promise of 1528, and in 2011 the two clans signed a Treaty of Alliance in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Treaty specifies that, outside of their respective ancestral homelands in Venice and Egypt, all territories held by either clan are to be considered shared territories, and an emissary from one shall be present in the courts of the other. The Alliance affirms their independence of the Camarilla and Sabbat but promises mutual protection and aid. In addition to a united front against the Sabbat, the two clans have been able to pool their ties to the mortal criminal underworld and share their knowledge of necromancy and sorcery with one another.

Background Edit

The Alliance, and the events leading up to its formation, assume that the events of the Time of Judgment did not culminate in Gehenna in 2004, a deliberate decision on the part of By Night Studios. This is in contrast to the metaplot-agnostic approach taken by Onyx Path Publishing in Vampire: The Masquerade 20th Anniversary Edition. Whether this will be incorporated into future World of Darkness products remains to be seen.
